THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY 1942

Reluctant to go to War in its first time, Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander in chief of the Japanese combined fleet, of aircraft carriers and battleships with small other war vessels, opposed an American force that included only three aircraft carriers and land based planes along with a variety of smaller craft. at the central Pacific west of Hawaii and the northern pacific near Aleutians.

                                                               

The SBD-3 Dauntless Dive Bomber was the main scout and dive bomber plane of the US Navy. It is responsible for inflicting lethal damage against the four aircraft carriers of the Imperial Japanese Navy Akagi, Kaga, Soryu and Hiryu during the battle of Midway, and even before it performed numerous successful air missions, but the potential of the Dauntless was greatly exploit and effectiveness at the battle of Midway. Like the VB-6 squadron who struck most of it's bombs in the carrier Kaga, it has a total load of a thousand pound bomb, along with the squadron VS-6, for an over 27 dive-bombers dive. The Dauntless was still lately being used by other nations just prior to the end of WWII, It entered service in 1941 until 1944.

arrier Hiryu was struck by SBD Dauntless dive bombers late on June 1942. Burning, the carrier was abandoned and scuttled . As ordered by Yamaguchi and Kaku Hiryu's captain after a ceremonial exchange and after the signature of Banzai Warcries.

The Battle of Midway was an unfinished business of destroying the bulk of the US Navy, having failed to locate and destroy the US aircraft carrier, despite the setback at coral sea , Admiral Yamamoto forge with plans of capturing Midway , less than 1200 miles west of Hawaii.

With Midway in Japanese hands the defensive perimeter of the Japanese Empire would be extended considerably .

On the morning of June 4, 1942 , the Japanese were winning the Pacific War in almost all aspects  an hour later 3 Japanese Carriers were on fire and sinking. The fate of nations and the course of the Pacific War had change in an astonishing five minutes flurry of American bombs.

The Battle of Midway was the turning point in the Pacific War, the battle was devastating defeat for Japan, four carriers were sunk, and turn the tide to the Allies.

It was more like of a chance than a miracle at Midway , Admiral Nimitz made a bold decision to meet the Japanese fleet despite the mismatch.
